WiFi MURS moving to new channel this year

posted May 11, 2014, 9:20 PM by Brent Chapman

For the past couple of years, we've suggested that folks invest in a MURS radio for their camp, which can be used both to contact other Playa WiFi users (and maybe us, the Playa WiFi team, if we're not too busy with our primary job of supporting the network for Burning Man departments) and to contact the Emergency Services Department (ESD) in case of emergency.

For 2014, we're still recommending MURS, but we're suggesting a different MURS channel than in years past, because our old channel has been claimed by the Art Support Services team.  So, the bad news is, if you've already got a MURS radio programmed for Playa WiFi, you've got to reprogram it; the good news is, you can now also use it to contact Art Support Services, if you're a supported art project.

Full details are on the How To > MURS page.
